Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 medium sweet onions, sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 12 slices French baguette bread, cut 1/2-inch-thick and lightly toasted
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • fresh parsley leaves, to taste, for garnish

Directions

Step 1 -Grease an 11x7-inch baking dish.

Step 2 -In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter.

Step 3 -Add the onions to the melted butter, cover the saucepan, and cook, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes.

Step 4 -Add the beef broth and the Worcestershire sauce to the onions and bring to a boil.

Step 5 -Reduce the heat to low and simmer the onion mixture, uncovered, until the liquid has reduced, about 30 minutes.

Step 6 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 7 -Pour the onion mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Step 8 -Place the toasted bread slices on top of the onion mixture in a single layer.

Step 9 -Evenly sprinkle the bread slices with the mozzarella and the parmesan.

Step 10 -Bake the casserole until the cheese is melted and the top has browned, about 20-30 minutes.

Step 11 -Serve the casserole garnished with the parsley.
