Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 (1-pound) flank steak, sliced into 1/4-inch-thick strips
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup beef stock
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 5 cups small broccoli florets
  • salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste
  • sesame seeds, optional, to taste, for garnish

Directions

Step 1 -In a large skillet over medium heat, add the avocado oil.

Step 2 -Add the beef slices to the hot oil and cook, while stirring occasionally, until the beef slices brown, about 4-5 minutes.

Step 3 -Transfer the browned beef slices to a plate.

Step 4 -In the same skillet over medium heat, add the butter and the olive oil and heat, while stirring gently, until the butter is melted.

Step 5 -Add the onions to the butter mixture and cook, while stirring, until the onions are caramelized and tender, about 20 minutes.

Step 6 -Reduce the heat to medium-low.

Step 7 -Add the soy sauce, the beef stock, the ginger, and the garlic to the caramelized onions and stir to combine.

Step 8 -Cook the onion mixture, while stirring, until it starts to simmer, about 5 minutes.

Step 9 -Using an immersion blender, blend the onion mixture until it becomes a mostly smooth sauce.

Step 10 -Reduce the heat to low.

Step 11 -Add the broccoli to the sauce and toss to coat.

Step 12 -Add the browned beef slices to the sauce and toss to coat.

Step 13 -Bring the beef mixture to a simmer and cook until the broccoli is tender and the beef slices reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F for medium doneness, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 14 -Taste the sauce for seasoning and add the salt and the black pepper, as needed.

Step 15 -Serve immediately garnished with the sesame seeds.
