The Philly experience is finally in delicious pasta dinner form! Cheesesteak Pasta Skillet is loaded with succulent ground chuck, tender pasta, and lots of cheese. Seriously, lots of cheese! Three cups of melty provolone and spicy pepper jack to be exact! Throw in some seared vegetables and Cheesesteak Pasta Skillet becomes more than just a cheesesteak fix; it becomes a nourishing and tasty meal!
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, halved and sliced into 1/2-inch-thick slices
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
- 1 medium red bell pepper, sliced into 1/2-inch-thick slices
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground chuck
- 1/2 teaspoon finely ground black pepper
- 8 ounces rotini pasta
- 2 (14.5-ounce) cans low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 1/2 cups provolone cheese, shredded, divided
- 1 1/2 cups pepper jack cheese, shredded, divided
Directions
Step 1 -In a 10-inch, high-sided skillet over medium-high heat, add the oil and heat until it is shimmering.
Step 2 -Add the onions and 1/2 teaspoon of the salt and cook, while stirring, until the onions begin to brown and soften, about 5 minutes.
Step 3 -Add the bell peppers and the garlic to the onions and cook, while stirring, until the bell peppers begin to soften and the garlic is fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 4 -Add the ground chuck, the black pepper, and the remaining salt to the onion mixture and cook, while crumbling the meat, until the beef is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 5 -Add the pasta to the beef mixture and stir to combine.
Step 6 -Add the chicken broth to the pasta mixture and stir to combine.
Step 7 -Cover the skillet and bring the pasta mixture to a boil.
Step 8 -Uncover the skillet and cook, while stirring occasionally, until the pasta is cooked and most of the liquid is absorbed, about 20-25 minutes.
Step 9 -Position an oven rack in the middle position.
Step 10 -Preheat the oven to the broil setting on high.
Step 11 -Add 1/2 of the provolone cheese and 1/2 of the pepper jack cheese to the pasta mixture and stir to combine.
Step 12 -Sprinkle the remaining provolone and the remaining pepper jack cheese over the top of the pasta mixture.
Step 13 -Broil the pasta mixture until the cheese melts and turns golden-brown, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 14 -Serve.
