Unearth a new way to enjoy your very favorite cookie! Dirt Cupcakes will wiggle their way into becoming one of your favorite sweet treats! Oozing with all the rich chocolate flavor you could dream of, these moist cupcakes boast a creamy chocolatey icing, a "clean", non-squirmy gummy worm, and a dusting of crumbled chocolate sandwich cookies! Brush off your baking tins and clean up your cupcake game with these Dirt Cupcakes. It's a sinkhole of chocolate you will never want to leave. We know you're going to dig it!
Ingredients
- 1 (15.25-ounce) box chocolate cake mix, plus the ingredients called for on the box but using 1 less egg than instructed (should use a total of 2 eggs)
- 1 (3.5-ounce) box chocolate pudding mix
- 2 ounces vanilla yogurt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar, plus more, to taste
- 1/2 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream, plus more, to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed, for topping
- gummy worms, optional, to taste, for topping
Directions
Step 1 -Prepare the chocolate cake mix as cupcakes, according to the package directions, and add in the pudding mix and the yogurt.
Step 2 -Bake the cupcakes according to the package directions.
Step 3 -Allow the cupcakes to cool.
Step 4 -In a bowl, add the butter and beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy, about 2 minutes.
Step 5 -Add 3 cups of the confectioners' sugar, the cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons of the heavy cream, the salt, and the vanilla extract to the butter and beat on low speed for 30 seconds.
Step 6 -Increase the mixing speed to high and beat until everything is well-combined, about 2 minutes.
Step 7 -If the buttercream seems too thin, add the extra confectioners' sugar, a little at a time, and if it seems too thick, add the extra heavy cream, a little at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
Step 8 -Transfer the buttercream to a piping bag.
Step 9 -Once the cupcakes have cooled completely, pipe the buttercream onto the cupcakes.
Step 10 -Sprinkle the cupcakes with the crushed cookies and the gummy worms.
Step 11 -Serve.
