Drunken Cajun Shrimp has a depth of flavor that would make a bayou jealous! Zesty and spicy, the shrimp are cooked in an herbaceous and malty beer sauce enhanced with rich butter! There's Southern hospitality and then there's serving up Drunken Cajun Shrimp with a big bowl of grits! The good times are certainly rolling now!
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup amber beer or beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- parsley leaves, optional, to taste, for garnish
- grits, optional, to taste, cooked and hot, for serving
Directions
Step 1 -In a large, cast-iron skillet or a similar heavy skillet, melt the butter.
Step 2 -Add the garlic and cook, while stirring, until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Step 3 -Add the beer, the Worcestershire sauce, the pepper, the salt, the thyme, the rosemary, the red pepper flakes, the cayenne pepper, and the oregano and stir to combine.
Step 4 -Bring the sauce mixture to a boil.
Step 5 -Add the shrimp and cook, while stirring occasionally, until they turn pink and reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F, about 3-4 minutes.
Step 6 -Garnish with the parsley and serve with the grits.
