Easy Mandarin Chicken doesn't just arrive at the table faster than delivery; it runs circles around it in both speed and taste! The chicken is pan-seared and then braised in a bright, savory, sweet, and Asian-inspired sauce that's sticky and succulent! There is so much savory flavor in this humble chicken! Serve Easy Mandarin Chicken with rice and broccoli and watch your troubles wash away!
Ingredients
- For the chicken:
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 pounds chicken breasts, boneless and skinless, chopped into bite-sized chunks
- 1/3 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger, freshly grated
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Optional, for serving:
- green onions, to taste, sliced
- sesame seeds, to taste
- rice, to taste, cooked and hot
- broccoli, to taste, cooked and hot
Directions
Step 1 -In a wok or a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the oil.
Step 2 -Add the chicken pieces and cook, turning them once, until browned and mostly cooked through, about 3-6 minutes.
Step 3 -In a mixing bowl, add the orange juice, the soy sauce, the brown sugar, the water, the cornstarch, the garlic, the ginger, and the black pepper, and whisk until well-combined.
Step 4 -Pour the orange juice mixture over the chicken pieces in the skillet and stir to coat.
Step 5 -Bring the chicken mixture to a low boil, then reduce the heat to low.
Step 6 -Allow the chicken mixture to simmer until the sauce has thickened and the chicken pieces reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, about 5-8 minutes.
Step 7 -Top the chicken mixture with the green onions and the sesame seeds.
Step 8 -Serve with the rice and the broccoli.
