Healthier French Toast Bake reduces the butter and sugar content of the classic dish but retains that custard sweetness and tenderness that draws you to French Toast in the first place! A sprinkling of crunchy walnuts also helps up the protein content, filling you up and keeping you full of energy throughout your morning. Healthier French Toast Bake isn't just a boast; it's an integral part of any healthy morning!
Ingredients
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon, plus more for topping
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup, plus more for topping
- 8 slices bread, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup walnuts, optional, chopped
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Grease an 8x10-inch glass baking dish.
Step 3 -Whisk the eggs in a large bowl.
Step 4 -Add the milk, the cinnamon, and the maple syrup to the bowl and mix well.
Step 5 -Add the bread pieces to the prepared baking dish.
Step 6 -Cover the bread with the egg mixture and toss well to coat.
Step 7 -Sprinkle the walnuts over the bread.
Step 8 -Top the bread with the extra cinnamon and the extra maple syrup.
Step 9 -Bake until the French toast is set, about 40-45 minutes.
Step 10 -Serve.
