Ingredients
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup butter, cubed
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 (29-ounce) can sliced peaches, drained
- 12 (3/4-inch-thick) slices French bread, day-old
- 5 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ground cinnamon, to taste
Directions
Step 1 -Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Step 2 -In a small saucepan, bring the brown sugar, the butter, and the water to a boil.
Step 3 -Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Step 4 -Pour the sauce mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Step 5 -Top the sauce with the peaches.
Step 6 -Arrange the bread over the peaches.
Step 7 -In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, the milk, and the vanilla together.
Step 8 -Slowly pour the egg mixture over the bread.
Step 9 -Cover the baking dish and refrigerate for at least 8 hours and up to overnight.
Step 10 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 11 -Transfer the baking dish from the fridge 30 minutes prior to baking and allow it to come to room temperature.
Step 12 -Sprinkle the casserole with the cinnamon.
Step 13 -Cover the baking dish and bake for 20 minutes.
Step 14 -Uncover and bake until a knife inserted in the center of the French toast comes out clean, about 25-30 minutes.
Step 15 -Serve.
