This is a chicken and waffles casserole, with golden waffles and savory, crunchy chicken enjoying a lovely bed of fluffy eggs and the smoky sweetness of maple syrup. It is an incredibly easy casserole to put together and it's almost guaranteed to be a hit with everyone! There's no better way to start the day than with the Perfect Start Bake!
Ingredients
- 10 toaster waffles
- 1 (25-ounce) package frozen breaded chicken
- 8 large eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup maple syrup, plus more, to taste, for topping
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- kosher salt, to taste
- freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 2 -Place the waffles and the chicken on two large baking sheets.
Step 3 -Bake the waffles until golden and crispy, about 15 minutes.
Step 4 -Bake the chicken until warmed through and crispy, about 30 minutes.
Step 5 -Cut the waffles and the chicken into large chunks.
Step 6 -In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, the milk, 1/4 cup of the maple syrup, and the melted butter.
Step 7 -Season the egg mixture with the salt and the pepper.
Step 8 -Reduce the oven temperature to 375 degrees F.
Step 9 -In a 9x13-inch baking pan, layer the chicken pieces and the waffle pieces.
Step 10 -Pour the egg mixture over the chicken and the waffles.
Step 11 -Bake until golden and set, about 45 minutes-1 hour.
Step 12 -Serve warm drizzled with the extra maple syrup.
