Waking up can be hard to do. But when you know you have something warm and comforting waiting to fill up your tummy, it makes rising up a little easier. Especially when that warm and comforting dish is this Southern Comfort Sausage Casserole. Shoot, it'll take you right back to Mamaw's house. Remember when she used to make this creamy, cheesy bake?! It had all your breakfast favorites like tender hashbrowns and spicy sausage. She would make it alongside her famous fluffy waffles and goodness gracious, those were some of the sweetest (and most savory!) times. Get a little excited about rising and shining, and enjoy a taste of nostalgia with Southern Comfort Sausage Casserole. Mornings never tasted so good!
Ingredients
- 1 (30-ounce) package frozen shredded hashbrown potatoes, thawed
- 1 (14-ounce) package fully-cooked polish sausage, cut into slices, quartered into bite-sized pieces
- 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 1 cup sour cream, room temperature
- 1 medium onion, very finely diced
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup, undiluted
- fresh herbs, optional, to taste, chopped, for garnish
- green onions, optional, to taste, sliced, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Grease a 13x9-inch baking dish.
Step 3 -In a large mixing bowl, stir the hashbrowns, the sausage, the cheddar cheese, the sour cream, the onion, the butter, the pepper, the salt, and the cream of chicken soup together until combined.
Step 4 -Pour the hashbrown mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake, uncovered, until it is hot, bubbly, and lightly browned on top, about 40 minutes.
Step 5 -Serve the casserole garnished with the herbs and the green onions.
