Supreme Bubble-Up Bake is bubbling over with the best pizza flavors! Some buttery biscuits act as the crust for this once-handheld-turned-casserole delight. That stand-in crust gets coated and smothered with some rich pasta sauce that is filled with spicy Italian sausage and crunchy veggies, and of course, there's a nice sprinkle of gooey mozzarella cheese on top. It's fun to mix up the ways you eat your favorite dishes! Supreme Bubble-Up Bake is just bursting with possibilities!
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 4 ounces bulk Italian sausage
- 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup green bell pepper, diced
- 1 (10.2-ounce) can refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
- 1 cup tomato basil pasta sauce
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded, divided
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2 -Coat a 2-quart glass baking dish with cooking spray.
Step 3 -In a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat, heat the oil.
Step 4 -Add the sausage to the oil and cook, while crumbling, until it is no longer pink, about 3-5 minutes.
Step 5 -Use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked sausage to a small bowl.
Step 6 -Add the mushrooms, the red onion, and the bell pepper to the drippings in the skillet and cook, stirring frequently, until softened and browned, about 2-4 minutes.
Step 7 -Transfer the skillet from the heat.
Step 8 -Separate the dough into 5 biscuits and cut each biscuit into 6 pieces.
Step 9 -Place the biscuit pieces in a medium bowl.
Step 10 -Add the pasta sauce to the biscuit pieces and gently stir to coat.
Step 11 -Stir the sausage, the vegetable mixture, and 1/2 cup of the cheese into the biscuit-sauce mixture.
Step 12 -Evenly spoon the biscuit mixture into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
Step 13 -Bake the casserole until the biscuits in the center are baked through and the tops are golden-brown, about 20-25 minutes.
