Barry's Brown Sugar Brats are up to bat for a great meal! You can count on a home-run meal every time he heats up his roaster because it's always loaded with fresh bratwurst sausages that are exploding with sweetness from the apples and brown sugar, and lots of great flavor from the onions. This unique spin on your favorite brat makes for the perfect, summery dish! Added to soft hoagie-style buns with all of the fan-favorite toppings or just served on their own, Barry's Brown Sugar Brats really are a game-changer!
Ingredients
- 3 (1-pound) packages fresh bratwurst sausages
- 5 large apples, such as Gala, peeled and cored, sliced
- 6 onions, sliced
- 1 (1-pound) package brown sugar
- 1 cup water
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat a large electric covered roaster to 325 degrees F. Optionally, use a slow cooker on the low heat setting.
Step 2 -Add the bratwurst sausages to the preheated roaster, then evenly top with the apples, the onions, and the brown sugar.
Step 3 -Evenly pour the water over the sausage mixture.
Step 4 -Cover the roaster and cook the sausage mixture until the sausages reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F and look dark and candied, about 3 hours.
Step 5 -Serve topped with the onions and the apples.
