Ma's Country-Style Beef Stroganoff is a simple and speedy take on the worldwide favorite, using juicy ground beef and mushrooms to ramp up that beefy goodness! Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 6 ounces mushrooms, optional, sliced
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- parsley, optional, to taste, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -In a large nonstick skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat.
Step 2 -Add the onions and the mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms are soft and the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
Step 3 -Transfer the onion-mushroom mixture to a plate.
Step 4 -In the same skillet, add the beef and cook, while crumbling, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 5 -Drain the grease from the skillet.
Step 6 -Sprinkle the flour over the beef and cook until the raw flour smell disappears, about 1-2 minutes.
Step 7 -Pour in the beef broth and cook, stirring, until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
Step 8 -Add the onion-mushroom mixture back into the skillet.
Step 9 -Gently stir in the sour cream.
Step 10 -Season with the salt and the pepper.
Step 11 -Let the mixture simmer until heated through, about 5 minutes.
Step 12 -Serve garnished with the parsley.
