  • 14 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 whole egg plus 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon red liquid food coloring
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 (12-ounce) bag Hershey's Kisses®

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 -Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 3 -In a large bowl, add the butter, the brown sugar, and the vanilla extract and beat well with an electric hand mixture until it is creamy.

Step 4 -Add the whole egg, the egg yolk, and the food coloring to the butter mixture and mix until the color is fully incorporated.

Step 5 -In a separate bowl, add the salt, the flour, the baking powder, the baking soda, and the cocoa powder and stir to combine.

Step 6 -Pour 1/2 of the flour mixture into the egg mixture and mix well.

Step 7 -Pour the remaining flour mixture into the egg mixture and mix well.

Step 8 -Pour the granulated sugar onto a shallow plate.

Step 9 -Roll the cookie dough into 1-inch-thick balls, then roll them through the sugar.

Step 10 -Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake, about 11-13 minutes. Be careful not to overbake them.

Step 11 -Transfer the baking sheet to a wire rack and immediately place one of the Hershey Kisses in the center of each of the warm cookies.

Step 12 -Place the cookies on the wire rack and let them sit until they have cooled completely.

Step 13 -Serve.
